Former JRU guard William Sy moves to LPU

Following his departure from Jose Rizal University, William Sy has decided to transfer to Lyceum of the Philippines as he looks to continue his NCAA career.

Sy will serve a one-year residency before suiting up for the Pirates in Season 101. The 5-foot-9 guard can still have three years of eligibility in the collegiate ranks.

The 21-year-old Sy, who played for the Heavy Bombers for in Seasons 98 and 99, shared that he attended a tryout at Lyceum hoping to improve his skills.

"After I properly left my previous school which I still love, I started looking for a school. I just wanted to keep getting better and I just wanted to work on myself," Sy told GMA Integrated News.

"Napunta po ako sa mga school na ang babait din ng mga coaches and players and I learned a lot. I finally tried out for LPU through the assistance of Coach Denok Miranda of FEU and Coach MC Caceres of LPU. Buti po nagustuhan po ng coaches ang meron ako."

[After I properly left my previous school which I still love, I started looking for a school. I just wanted to keep getting better and I just wanted to work on myself... I was able to visit schools where the coaches and players are kind and I learned a lot. I finally tried out for LPU through the assistance of coach Denok Miranda of FEU and Coach MC Caceres of LPU. And it's a good thing the coaches liked what I had.]

Sy will be a huge addition to Lyceum, which is coming off back-to-back Final Four runs under the tutelage of head coach Gilbert Malabanan. He will join a stacked Pirates' roster that will feature Mclaude Guadaña, John Barba, John Bravo, and Gyle Montaño.
