San Beda University head coach Yuri Escueta took a page out of consultant Norman Black's playbook in the Red Lions' 74-69 win against Jose Rizal University on Saturday.

With the Mendiola crew up 71-67 with 22.9 seconds left in the final frame, the Red Lions made a masterful play which led to Yukien Andrada making the shot by the end of the sequence.

Asked about the said play, Escueta said he learned it from his college mentor Black.

"With 22 seconds on the shot clock, if you inbound the ball at the back court, wala nang shot clock (there'll be nothing left in the shot clock). So we decided to inbound the ball at the backcourt," Escueta shared.

"That sideline out of bounds from the backcourt is Coach Norman's idea when I was still playing."

Escueta played for Black when he was with the Ateneo de Manila University.

"After nung sideline out of bounds, nag-thank you ako kay Coach Norman. 'Di niya na siguro naalala 'yun pero ako naalala ko pa."

(After that sideline out of bounds, I thanked Coach Norman. Perhaps he has forgotten it but I could still remember it.)

Black previously said his focus as consultant was to train the big men, but added that he can help if Escueta needs anything from him.
