San Sebastian College-Recoletos cruised to a wire-to-wire 94-75 victory against the embattled and depleted Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Wednesday in NCAA Season 99 at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
The Stags bounced back from a loss to Mapua last Sunday to improve to 5-9. The Knights, who have already been eliminated from contention last Friday, dropped to 1-13.
It was all Stags right from the get-go with the backcourt duo of Paeng Are and Alex Desoyo conniving in the first half to give their camp a 51-38 lead as the Knights lost guard Nicko Fajardo two minutes into the first quarter.
It was a huge blow to an already-undermanned Letran lineup, which was missing team captain Kurt Reyson and Niel Guarino due to separate injuries.
Then it was Romel Calahat’s turn in the third to take over as the veteran bruiser dropped seven points while Desoyo’s long triple gave the Stags a 65-44 lead midway through.
The Knights never posed a threat of a comeback from that point on as the Stags completed the lopsided win.
Are dropped a season-high 23 points, highlighted by a triple that gave them the biggest lead at 86-57, alongside four rebounds, six assists, and one steal while Calahat churned out 21 markers laced with three boards, three dimes, three steals, and one block.
Desoyo and Reggz Gabat each tallied 13 points while Tristan Felebrico flirted with a double-double of 10 markers and nine rebounds.
The win was a revenge for San Sebastian, which gave the Knights their first win of the season when Letran pulled off an 86-71 win last October 18.
