No repeat this time around.
Enoch Valdez took charge in overtime as Lyceum of the Philippines University got its payback against Jose Rizal University, 99-96, to snap its skid in NCAA Season 99 on Tuesday.
Agem Miranda once again flaunted his ability in the clutch, burying a triple to send JRU to a crucial 93-87 lead but LPU's Vince Cunanan nailed five straight points for the tie, 94-all, with 1:15 left in extra period.
Jonathan Medina then broke the deadlock at 96-94, before Valdez sank a crucial three-pointer to give Lyceum a 98-96 cushion.
The Pirates captain then split his freebies and Miranda missed two free throws after fouling Valdez out in the final seconds.
Valdez tallied an all-around performance of 14 points, four rebounds, eight assists, and four steals while Cunanan shone with 20 markers, four boards, nine dimes, two swats, and one block.
Lyceum, who fell to the same JRU team in a double overtime epic last week, improved to 7-3 to end its three-game skid. JRU, on the other hand, slipped to 6-4.
JRU could not pull away for good despite leading by 11 points early in the first period, ending the next two frames up by just one point.
But the Heavy Bombers had a turning point in the fourth. Miranda, who was limited to just six points in the first half, fired a triple to send JRU to an 83-75 cushion as the Pirates continued to struggle from connecting.
Lyceum then banked on Valdez, who fueled an 8-1 run as they pulled to within one anew, 84-83, before Shawn Umali tied things up at 87-all with 45 seconds left.
Marwin Dionisio had the chance to win it in regulation but his final shot was denied by Umali, forcing an overtime.
Joshua Guiab paced JRU with a double-double outing of 21 points and 10 rebounds laced with two assists while Miranda finished with 19 markers, five boards, and three dimes.
