Mapua University is still far from perfect, at least according to their head coach Randy Alcantara.
Despite ending the first round of NCAA Season 99 on the top of the standings with eight wins and a loss, Alcantara said they still have certain items to improve on.
"Marami kaming lapses. Itong standing na 'to, lahat ng pinagdaanan namin, pahirapan eh. HIndi gano'ng kadali, maraming pinagdaanan bago namin makuha ang 8-1," Alcantara said in a post-game interview.
(We had a lot of lapses. This standing, everything that we went through was tough. It's not that easy. It took us a lot before getting to 8-1.)
Alcantara cited rebounding, lessening turnovers, and shot selection as some of the things the Cardinals would improve on.
Prior to this match, Mapua ranked the lowest in terms of total rebounds with 41.38 per game.
Now entering the second round as the top contender, Alcantara said they will prepare to be the target of all their opponents.
"For sure, target kami. Importante ngayon is mag-concentrate kami, kung anong nagawa naming maganda, itutuloy namin. Kung ano 'yung lapses namin on defense, lahat [aayusin]. Sigurado lahat naman ganon ang i-expect sa second round, lahat ng players and coaches mag-adjust."
(For sure, we are targets. What's important now is we concentrate, continue what we are doing good and whatever lapses on defense, we will fix. I'm sure it's expected in the second round. All players and coaches will adjust.)
