Perpetual, San Beda out to continue winning ways; LPU, JRU look to end dry spell | NCAA Philippines

As the final week of the first round of the NCAA Season 99 men's basketball tournament commences, two teams will be looking to end their slump while two other squads will be out to extend their winning ways on Tuesday.

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA and San Beda University will lock horns at 2 p.m. with both teams hoping to pick up where they left off while Lyceum of the Philippines University and Jose Rizal University, both of which saw their winning streaks come to an end last week, will slug it out at 4 p.m. at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.

Perpetual and San Beda came out victorious last week, and they are out to keep it that way.

The ALTAs are riding a two-game winning streak after shutting down San Sebastian College-Recoletos and Colegio de San Juan de Letran behind stellar outings from veteran Jielo Razon as well as young guns Jun Roque and Cyrus Nitura.

After a tough 1-4 start, Perpetual has now improved to 3-4 and the Las Piñas will try to protect it against a tough San Beda side, who is also coming off a gutsy win against Jose Rizal University last Saturday.

Jacob Cortez continues to flourish as the newest go-to guy for the Red Lions, averaging 17.67 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.83 assists, 1.67 steals, and 0.33 blocks to help San Beda cruise to solo third spot at 4-2.

In the second game, Lyceum and JRU are eyeing to return to the win column after busting their winning streaks.

The Pirates, who were once the league leaders, absorbed two sorry defeats at the hands of Emilio Aguinaldo College and Mapua University following an impressive 6-0 start.

The Heavy Bombers, on the other hand, are also fresh from back-to-back losses to San Sebastian and San Beda to fall to 4-3 after a three-game winning roll that saw them defeat Mapua, EAC, and Perpetual.
