Escobido, Sumoda take charge as San Sebastian shuts down EAC | NCAA Philippines

Raymart Escobido and Jessie Sumoda took turns to lead San Sebastian College-Recoletos’ second half rally en route to an 86-70 victory against Emilio Aguinaldo College in the NCAA Season 99 on Sunday.

San Sebastian bounced back from a previous loss to improve to 3-4 while the Generals slid to 4-3.

Escobido dropped a season-high 23 points on top of three rebounds, three steals, and two assists while Sumoda tallied a double-double of 14 markers and 10 boards.

Escobido, whose eight-point output in the first half saw the Stags up by 12 at 43-31, buried a triple before completing a three-point play to send the squad to a 70-52 cushion early in the fourth.

The Generals then restored some sorts of order late with Ralph Robin’s triple which cut the deficit to just 10, 65-75.

Stags veterans Jessie Sumoda and Alex Desoyo’s drained crucial baskets with the latter knocking down back-to-back long bombs to make it a comfortable 84-67 affair with 1:39 left.

Rafael Are then drove for a layup as the Stags halted EAC’s two-game winning streak.

King Gurtiza posted 20 points for EAC while JP Maguliano registered a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds.

San Sebastian will face Colegio de San Juan de Letran next on Wednesday, while the EAC will try to bounce back when they go against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on Friday.
