Mapua University gave San Beda University a reality check as the Cardinals sustained their winning form, 75-57, to remain undefeated in the NCAA Season 99 on Friday.
The Intramuros crew improved to 2-0 while the Red Lions dropped to an even 1-1 card.
Up 45-33 at the half, Mapua stepped on the gas in the third period where it outscored perennial Final Four contender San Beda, 15 to 11, to take a 60-44 cushion as Marc Cuenco and JC Recto continued to connect from deep.
Team captain Warren Bonifacio then drilled a rare three-pointer for a 69-51 lead before Clint Escamis and Jopet Soriano knocked down back-to-back baskets to send Mapua to a comfortable 73-51 advantage.
Paolo Hernandez posted 17 points, while Escamis and Bonifacio had 14 points and 13 points, respectively.
Alex Visser had 10 points, while Jacob Cortez was limited to nine points.
Mapua will look to make it three wins in a rows on Sunday when it takes on Jose Rizal University while San Beda will face Benilde next.
