NCAA Season 99

Upset win vs. Letran ‘means nothing’ yet for Lyceum — Malabanan

Lyceum of the Philippines University has now beaten the two finalists from last season as the Pirates sent De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and Colegio de San Juan de Letran crashing in their first two games in NCAA Season 99.

Lyceum dealt the Blazers an 85-81 loss on the opening day before escaping the defending champion Knights, 70-69, to remain unscathed at 2-0.

However, LPU head coach Gilbert Malabanan said these do not mean anything as their goal hasn’t been achieved yet.

“We’re happy that we’re on the top but we don’t stop and hindi pa naman ‘to ‘yung goal namin,” Malabanan said.

“Malayo pa kami sa goal namin and I don’t want na mag-relax kami because of that win.”

“That win means nothing kasi wala pa naman kaming napapatunayan.”

(We're happy that we're on the top but we don't stop and this is not yet our goal. We're still far from our goal and I don't want to relax because of that win. That win means nothing since we have not proved anything yet.)

Malabanan said they will enjoy the huge victory, especially against a Letran side who is eager to bounce back from an opening day loss to Jose Rizal University last Sunday.

After all, Lyceum will have a short turnaround before returning to action on Saturday against Perpetual.

“We will gonna enjoy and we will cherish this win but by tomorrow; we’ll be back to work,” Malabanan said.
