Jose Rizal University head coach Louie Gonzales said he was happy when his players JL Delos Santos and John Amores were selected in the 2023 PBA Rookie Draft last Sunday.
Delos Santos, who will still play in the upcoming NCAA Season 99, was selected in the second round by the Converge FiberXers, while Amores was picked by the NorthPort Batang Pier in the fifth round.
Gonzales said the selection of the two Heavy Bombers was a result of their program.
"'Yun talaga ang aim ng program, for us to develop future PBA players and future national [team] players," he told reporters on Thursday in the NCAA Season 99 press conference.
(That's the aim of our program, for us to develop future PBA players and future national team players.)
Gonzales praised Delos Santos' improvement under JRU's program.
"'Yung responsibility of being in a team, being one of our leaders, talagang now he's carrying sa shoulders niya," the JRU mentor said.
(His responsibility in the team, as one of our leaders, now he's carrying those in his shoulders.)
Meanwhile, Gonzales wished the best for Amores who has been involved in a controversial incident in NCAA Season 98.
"He made a mistake and he's sorry for that pero ako, knowing John, alam kong he's bigger than that. Right now, I really wish him well and ma-showcase niya talaga 'yung totoong John Amores at kakayanan ng isang John Amores," said Gonzales.
(He made a mistake and he's sorry for that but knowing John, I know he's bigger than that. Right now, I really wish him well and hope he can showcase his the true talent of John Amores.)
