Letran HS star Andy Gemao set to fly for tryout in US school | NCAA Philippines

Andy Gemao is off to the USA.

The high-flying 6-foot guard from the Colegio de San Juan de Letran juniors basketball program is set to fly to South California, where he will attend a tryout at the Veritas Academy National Prep.

Squires head coach Allen Ricardo confirmed the news to GMA News Online on Wednesday, saying he's happy and proud of Gemao as the young cager continues his bid to make it to the US NCAA.

"I’m happy for him. That’s all I want for my players, to have that opportunity to play at the highest level," Ricardo said in a message.

Veritas Academy National Prep has similarities with the high school programs of Letran and rival San Beda University, where top US NCAA Division I teams recruit their players for the collegiate ranks.

Ricardo said Gemao will stay in the US for a month-long assessment to see if he can formally transfer and leave Letran.

Gemao, who led the Squires to the NCAA Season 98 juniors basketball title that ended the school's 22-year drought, has previously joined the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Asia in Abu Dhabi where he attended a series of training under prominent names.

Gemao was named the Finals MVP last season after churning out averages of 18.5 points, 6.92 rebounds, 2.83 assists, 2.17 steals, and 0.33 blocks.
