San Beda University flew to Los Angeles, California to hold an intensive training camp as the Red Lions look to complete a redemption bid in the upcoming NCAA Season 99 men's basketball tournament this September.
The Mendiola crew left for the US on Wednesday and will stay there for two weeks before opening a new campaign in the NCAA, said team captain Peter Alfaro.
While in the overseas camp, the Red Lions led by Alfaro, Yukien Andrada, and Jacob Cortez will figure in a series of tuneup games against several US NCAA Division 1 teams and other clubs in the country.
San Beda, the winningest NCAA basketball team, is shifting its Season 99 preparations to a higher gear, especially after missing out two consecutive finals appearances in Seasons 97 and 98. For the past two seasons, the powerhouse squad only managed to reach the Final Four, bowing to Mapua University and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in the semifinals, respectively.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, San Beda also had training camps in the United States.
Other Red Lions who joined the camp are James Payosing, Clifford Jopia, Damie Cuntapay, JV Gallego, Alex Visser, Collin Dimaculangan, Joshua Tagala, and Jommel Puno with head coach Yuri Escueta leading the training.
