Lyceum of the Philippines University on Sunday survived a late rally from Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 66-59, to get their fourth win on Sunday in the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup in San Juan.
The Pirates were leading by 14, 63-49, with 6:26 left before the Knights made a 10-0 run and cut their deficit to four with 2:05 remaining in the fourth period. A split from Shawn Umali and a late layup from John Barba sealed the win for Lyceum.
Umali registered 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Barba was a rebound shy of a double-double as he posted 16 points and nine boards. Gyle Montaño chipped in 11 points as Lyceum improved to 4-2, tied with Letran. The win spoiled Deo Cuajao's 25-point drop for the Knights.
Meanwhile, Mapua University defeated San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 71-61.
John Kobe Dalisay had 17 points while Warren Bonifacio and Rence Nocum had 12 and 10 points, respectively as the Cardinals improved to 5-2.
Earlier, University of the East (3-4) won over Centro Escolar University (1-5), 67-59.
