De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde just gained two stars as budding young cagers Tony Ynot and Justine Sanchez have decided to transfer to Taft following two-season stints with San Beda University.
Blazers head coach Charles Tiu made the confirmation, saying the addition of Ynot and Sanchez will be a big boost to the Taft squad as they look to retain their title contender status.
Ynot and Sanchez, who are products of San Beda Red Cubs in the junior ranks, both suited up for the Red Lions in Season 97 and 98 of the NCAA men's basketball tournament, but both occasions saw San Beda fall short of making it back to the Finals.
Do-it-all guard Ynot posted 9.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in Season 98 while high-flying Sanchez had 5.6 markers, 3.4 boards, and 0.9 dimes as the Red Lions finished fourth.
The two will be eligible to play in Season 100, where they will team up with another transferee in Allen Liwag, who decided to transfer after playing for two years for Emilio Aguinaldo College.
"I do not even know if we will still be a title contender this year. We haven’t been playing well in our games lately and I’m seeing the other NCAA teams beef up and play well," said Tiu.
"It’s a bit worrisome for me. However I am sure the addition of Ynot, Sanchez and Liwag will be a big boost for our team and they will help us."
