New coach, same goal — winning.

This will be the mentality of Colegio de San Juan de Letran come NCAA Season 99 as it formally inked Rensy Bajar as the new Knights head coach.

Bajar, who served as deputy of his predecessor Bonnie Tan since 2019, said he will just continue what Tan’s program has started as they look to bag the school’s four straight men’s basketball tournament.

“Itutuloy lang namin kung ano ‘yung nasimulan natin tsaka ‘yung mga additional just to improve the team,” Bajar said during his official signing at Letran campus on Monday.

("We will just continue what we started and some additional just to improve the team.")

Bajar’s assignment made him the first San Beda University product to ever steer the ship for Letran, which happens to be the Red Lions’ rival. He played in San Beda high school and graduated in 1993 before suiting for the Mendiola crew in the college ranks until 1997.

But the 47-year-old mentor said coaching Letran is nothing personal, while also saying he has a big shoes to fill in as Tan led the Knights to a historic three-peat.

“Actually ‘di na bago [na makalaban ang San Beda] kasi since 2019, nakalaban na namin sila sa championship. It’s a good challenge na makapagcoach din ako sa Letran,” he added.

“Trabaho lang naman, nothing personal kasi at the end of the day, basketball pa rin tayo.”

(Actually, it's nothing new because since 2019, we've already faced them in the championship. It's a good challenge that I was able to coach at Letran... It's just business, nothing personal at the end of the day, it's all just basketball.")
