Letran enters new chapter as Bonnie Tan bids goodbye, Rensy Bajar takes over as head coach | NCAA Philippines

Colegio de San Juan de Letran will open another chapter in its formidable basketball program as three-peat head coach Bonnie Tan parted ways with the Knights.

The move was officially announced on Sunday.

“I'm grateful for the opportunities that Letran has afforded me. I'm deeply appreciative of how the community has welcomed me since I came on board and being considered as an honorary Letranite will always be one of the biggest achievements I could ever receive," Tan said.

Deputy coach Rensy Bajar will take Tan’s place as the new head coach of the Muralla-based squad. The formal announcement will be made on Monday.

“Coach Rensy has been with us during the three-peat era and I'm confident that he can sustain the winning culture that we have built with the Knights," he said.

In his four-year stint with Letran which started in 2019, Tan steered the Knights to NCAA titles in Seasons 95, 97, and 98, and amassed an impressive 44-13 total win-loss record, including a tournament sweep in Season 97.

“As I close this chapter, I cherish all of those who believed in what we could do for the Knights, from boss Ramon S. Ang and sports director Alfrancis Chua of San Miguel Corp. to Letran Rector Fr. Clarence Victor C. Marquez, OP, Vice President for Academic Affairs Assoc. Prof. Cristina M. Castro-Cabral, Ph.D, and athletic director Fr. Victor Calvo, OP,” said Tan.

Tan will now shift his focus to NorthPort Batang Pier where he served as head coach in the interim capacity during the recently concluded PBA Governors’ Cup.
