And now it can be said: Andy Gemao is an NCAA champion.

The 16-year-old sensation led the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Squires as they captured the NCAA Season 98 juniors basketball tournament title with a sweep of College of Saint Benilde-La Salle Green Hills on Thursday.

And Gemao said it’s an honor to be mentioned in the same sentence as former Squires who went on to become stars of Philippine basketball like JC Intal, RJ Jazul, Jay-R Reyes, and Rey Gueverra.

The quartet was part of Squires’ last championship team in 2001, when Letran outlasted rival San Beda University in three games to capture the Season 77 throne.

“Sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam. Lahat ng pagod namin ay nabigyan ng saya. Ayun ‘yung fulfillment namin,” Gemao said.

“We feel honored po sa panalo na ‘to, sobrang honored po kami na mapasama kami sa mga greats.”

("It feels so good. All of the work we put in have been returned with happiness That's our fulfillment... We feel honored for this win, very honored to be included among the greats.")
