RC Calimag decides to leave UP, joins San Beda Red Lions' den

San Beda University has secured the commitment of RC Calimag, who has decided to leave University of the Philippines in the UAAP after two years and transfer to the NCAA.

San Beda team manager Jude Roque confirmed the news to GMA Integrated News, saying Calimag still has three years to play in the collegiate ranks and will be available come Season 100.

"Yes, we met them today. RC's dad, Ricky, was a former player of mine," Roque said in a message.

Calimag was hardly used in the previous UAAP Season 85 as the Fighting Maroons relied heavily on usual gunners Carl Tamayo, JD Cagulangan, Zavier Lucero, Henry Galinato, and import Malick Diouf.

At San Beda, Calimag will boost a young core that includes Jacob Cortez, Tony Ynot, Justine Sanchez, Yukien Andrada, and Gab Cometa as the Red Lions will look to redeem themselves after missing the Finals in Seasons 97 and 98.

Calimag will not be the first former UP cager to transfer to San Beda in recent times as high school star Collin Dimaculangan also decided to jump ship to Mendiola in September 2022. The 19-year-old Dimaculangan served his residency in Season 98 and could be available next year.
