NCAA reprimands Brent Paraiso for 'disrespect' towards game officials in Game 2

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has issued a stern warning to Brent Paraiso after the Colegio de San Juan de Letran guard 'disrespected' game officials during Game 2 of the Season 98 Finals against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde last Sunday.

Paraiso was caught on camera participating in a chant, which included swear words directed at the referees, in unison with the crowd. This happened at the 5:29 mark of the second period after his teammate Fran Yu was slapped with a disqualifying foul.

This, according to league commissioner Tonichi Pujante, was deemed disrespectful.

"Upon post game review, you were seen on the official game mouthing what the crowd was chanting against the referee at the 5:29 mark of the second quarter in your game yesterday, 11 December 2022, against CSB," said the letter.

Paraiso, though, will escape further sanction as it was only his first offense.

Pujante's decision to reprimand Paraiso was based on league rule that says any player who utters foul language or makes foul gestures at any game official is subject to admonition (first offense) and ejection or suspension (second offense).
