NCAA FINALS

Letran's Kyle Tolentino suspended; Pao Javillonar required to issue apology, undergo community service

The National Collegiate Athletic Association on Friday announced its sanctions on the incidents involving Colegio de San Juan de Letran players Kyle Tolentino and Pao Javillonar during Game 1 of the NCAA Season 98 Finals on December 4.

In a statement, the league said Tolentino will be issued a one-game suspension after it was found that he was occupying the landing spot of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde's Migs Oczon, which resulted in an injury. The suspension will be served in Game 2 of the Finals on Sunday.

Regarding Javillonar's actions against Will Gozum, the NCAA said "upon review and thorough consideration of the official video of the game and testimonies from the referees and Commissioner, it showed that Javillonar committed an unsportsmanlike behavior when he touched the private part of Gozum, in violation of applicable rules under the NCAA Manual of Operations on making provocative gestures; using foul gestures; and taunting, making fun of another player or person."

With this, Javillonar "was strongly reprimanded for his unsportsmanlike conduct and warned that a repetition or commission of a similar offense will merit a stricter penalty."

He will also be asked to issue an apology and render community service "as a rehabilitative measure."

"Finally, Javillonar was directed to consistently observe the core values of the athletic association in promoting camaraderie, good values, and friendly athletic competition," the league added.

Benilde's Stephen Fernandez previously said it will not file a formal complaint about Javillonar's action, but described it as 'disrespectful.'

Game 2 of the Finals will happen on Sunday. Watch the game on GMA and GTV and via livestream on the social media platforms of GMA Sports PH and NCAA Philippines.
