John Abis made some history on Friday, dropping a triple-double in University of Perpetual Help System DALTA's 89-83 stunner over De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in NCAA Season 98.
The sophomore big man nailed 13 points on top of 11 rebounds and 10 assists to steer the ALTAs back to the win column after a three-game losing streak.
But Abis said even he got surprised following his accomplishment, which was only the first triple-double in the NCAA since Bong Quinto notched one back in 2018 for Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
"Sobrang nakakatuwa kasi nagulat ako na gano'n 'yung naging performance ko eh. Ang gusto ko lang naman ay maglaro lang talaga and ibigay lang 'yung best," said Abis.
"'Yun ang sabi nila Coach Myk (Saguiguit). Nung nalaman ko na triple-double ako, tuwang-tuwa ako. Hindi ko alam bakit nangyari 'yun."
Perpetual head coach Saguiguit said the big win over the Blazers, who were coming off an incident against Jose Rizal University last Tuesday, was a product of them shrugging the pressure off their backs despite a shaky season.
"Actually 'yun 'yung tinanggal namin, 'yung pressure. Before going to this game, ang mabigat kasi ang pressure nila ay individual so lalong sumabog," he said.
"Sabi ko tanggalin niyo 'yang pressure, enjoy-in niyo 'yang game. Sana magtuloy-tuloy."
