JRU apologizes, to conduct separate inquiry on John Amores incident

Jose Rizal University has also handed John Amores an indefinite suspension for his actions in the game between JRU and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on Tuesday.

JRU Management Committee representative Paul Supan on Wednesday announced the suspension, specifying that Amores will no longer see action for at least the rest of NCAA Season 98.

"The university has therefore decided that Mr. John Anthony Walker Amores will be suspended indefinitely. This means that he will not play for the remainder of the NCAA Season 98 basketball games of the Heavy Bombers nor participate in team practices," Supan said.

Supan added that the school will conduct an internal inquiry of the incident separate from that of the NCAA, but promised to cooperate fully with the league's own investigation.

"A separate internal inquiry of the matter will be conducted consistent with the university rules and regulations. This decision of the university is separate from any decision that the NCAA management committee may have."

He also stressed that JRU does not condone any form of violence and extended his apologies for the events.

"We apologize to the whole basketball community, particularly to our NCAA family for this incident. Violence has no part in the sport of basketball, and as a member of the NCAA, we shall continue to uphold the highest ideals of collegiate athletic competitions."

The game between the Heavy Bombers and Blazers was stopped at the 3:22 mark of the fourth quarter after Amores charged the Benilde bench and threw punches at several players.

Amores has also been suspended indefinitely by the league.

10 other players from JRU and three from Benilde have also been suspended at least one game due to the incident.
