With the tail end of the eliminations fast approaching, defending champion Colegio de San Juan de Letran will look to add to their win total as they put their six-game win streak on the line when it faces Lyceum of the Philippines University on Friday in NCAA Season 98.
Three-peat seeking Letran and Lyceum will go at it in the opening salvo at 12 p.m. before Jose Rizal University and San Sebastian College-Recoletos, both coming off a loss, will take on each other at 3 p.m.
Letran is trying to protect its immaculate run that started following tough back-to-back losses early in the first round against rival San Beda University and Lyceum.
And head coach Bonnie Tan likes the position his streaking squad is currently in.
"We're happy napupunta kami sa goal namin which is to reach 'yung top two by the end of the eliminations," he said.
The Knights are fresh off a 69-50 thrashing of San Sebastian over the weekend with veterans Fran Yu and Brent Paraiso steadying the ship for the Muralla crew.
A win today over #3-running LPU will solidify Letran's hold of the second spot, while a Pirates victory will make the race even tighter.
Letran (9-3) are just a loss behind league-leading De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (9-2) and slightly ahead of Lyceum (8-4) in the win-loss table.
"We're on the right track sa ngayon. Gusto ko lang sa team ay mag-peak sa second round so sana magtuloy-tuloy."
In the second game, both JRU and San Sebastian will look to regain their winning ways.
The Heavy Bombers are still reeling from a 92-79 loss to the Blazers the other day, which snapped their five-game win streak and spoiled their return from an 18-day layoff due to health and safety protocols.
But even with an undermanned roster as three key players missed out the game, JRU still managed to put up a fight against the top seed with skipper Ry Dela Rosa lighting it up for a career-high 26 points.
The Stags, on the other hand, are out to bounce back from a previous loss as the wards of head coach Egay Macaraya look to collect more wins in bid to reach the playoffs.
