Will Gozum has high hopes that De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde will be more than just a dark horse team in NCAA Season 98.
Currently, the Blazers sit atop the team standings with a 9-2 win-loss card, making a strong case as a Final Four contender alongside perennial powerhouse Colegio de San Juan de Letran, San Beda University, and Lyceum of the Philippines University.
Gozum, though, knows that there's a long way to go for them, but he's hoping their 20-year playoff drought will finally be arrested this season.
"Sawa na kaming maging dark horse kasi eh," the 6-foot-7 big man said after dropping a career-high on Wednesday against Jose Rizal University.
"Parang every year na lang lagi kaming dark horse so gusto lang namin ma-prove sa lahat, lalo na gusto naming makapakita sa CSB community na this year, mas gusto namin and hopefully masuportahan nila kami."
Gozum scattered 34 points against the Heavy Bombers to go along with eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks, but the bruiser stressed he wasn't satisfied with his recent outing as he also committed seven turnovers.
Nonetheless, Gozum is hoping his career-high outing can somehow fuel his teammates in their remaining games.
"'Yung mga coaches hindi happy, ako rin hindi happy kasi may seven turnovers, ang daming pwedeng mangyari dyan and mas iwo-work ko 'yung turnovers ko, papanoorin ko 'yung mga videos and talagang pagaaralan ko siya," he said.
"Sinasabi ko lang lagi na ayaw na namin maging dark horse for this season, gusto namin na 'yung mentality namin is talagang championship, Final Four if makuha namin, good, pero ang gusto talaga namin ay maging champion this year para din sa mga seniors na ga-graduate."
