After 22-rebound outing, Perpetual big man Mark Omega opens up about struggles

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA got a huge boost on the boards with big man Mark Denver Omega holding the fort in its overtime win over San Beda in NCAA Season 98 on Saturday.

Thanks in large part to Omega's 22-rebound outing, the ALTAs won the rebounding battle against the Red Lions, 60-55, as part of their 75-72 escape that snapped a three-game losing skid for a 5-6 win loss card.

Omega also finished with nine points and two blocks, with his rebounding output surpassing this season's single-game record of 17, previously held by Letran's King Caralipio, EAC's Allen Liwag, and San Sebastian's Romel Calahat.

This big performance brought the confidence back in Omega after he admitted to having some personal struggles the past days.

"Ngayon okay na ako kasi nung nakaraan marami akong iniisip na negativity kaya hindi ako makapaglaro nang maayos," Omega shared.

"Ngayon, okay na ako kasi lahat ng teammates ko minomotivate ako and hindi lang teammates ko, lahat ng coaches din. Gumising daw ako kasi hindi nila nakikita 'yung MDO na dati."

For the sophomore big man, there is always room for improvement even after his impressive showing.

"Sobrang blessed ako kasi nakuha 'yung stats na ganyan pero sa susunod na game namin, mas double effort pa ako kasi marami pang miss eh sa effort," he said.
