San Beda makes statement in bounce-back from tough loss to Benilde | NCAA Philippines

San Beda University marched into its game against University of Perpetual Help System DALTA on Wednesday with nothing in mind but to bounce back from a previous loss.

And the Red Lions did just that, routing the Altas, 71-52, to finish the first round on a winning note with a 6-3 card.

"Again, hats off to our guys coming into the game with that energy coming from that loss against CSB," San Beda head coach Yuri Escueta said.

The Red Lions put up a fight against the Blazers last Sunday, but Benilde just proved to be more deadly as it gutted out a 78-69 victory with star transferee Migs Oczon firing up their offense.

"Again last game against CSB, we had guys shooting 0-of-4, a couple of guys 0-of-3, which were open, so I couldn't blame James (Kwekuteye) if he was the only one making shots," added the rookie coach.

"Oczon made some tough shots. Grabe. Kobe nga sabi ko eh."

And against Perpetual, San Beda made sure to be put that behind them as Kwekuteye and JB Bahio once again starred with 12 and 16 points apiece.

The Red Lions got off to a 25-11 start and led by as many as 22 points before cruising to the win against the ALTAs.
