De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde head coach Charles Tiu was all praises for his star guard Migs Oczon, who led their late-game rally against San Beda University in NCAA Season 98 on Sunday.
Down by two points, the Blazers suddenly went up by eight, 74-66, after Oczon fired three three-pointers before another basket from him brought the Taft crew to a comfortable 76-67 cushion.
With Oczon catching fire, Benilde was able to beat San Beda for the first time in eight years, and go 7-1 in the standings this season.
"He doesn't say much, doesn't complain and it's nice to see him hit those threes because he struggled shooting at the start of the season but I felt like he's helping us in different ways," Tiu said following their 78-69 victory.
"Today, he just bailed us out. The basketball gods favored us today, I guess."
Tiu also recognized the work Oczon has been putting in and out this season as he looks to help Benilde put an end to years of heartbreaks.
"He knows he has a green light to basically shoot whenever he wants," Tiu added.
"We try to give him confidence but again, he's our hardest worker in the team by far. Very quiet but he just put in the work."
For Oczon, his decision to take over late was built on the confidence that the team is giving him.
"Parang medyo naging flat 'yung fourth quarter namin and parang feel ko kailangan namin maka-score so nung may chance akong itira 'yung bola, tinake ko 'yun and naging confident ako sa shots ko," Oczon said.
