Arellano's Shane Menina admits win over his former school Mapua feels 'bittersweet'

Arellano University guard Shane Menina was left with bittersweet feelings as he led the Chiefs to a 64-59 win over his former school, Mapua University, in NCAA Season 98 action on Sunday.

Menina starred late for the Chiefs, knocking down a three-point dagger to give his side a comfortable 64-56 lead with 28.7 seconds left in the game. He eventually finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal as Arellano snapped its two-game losing skid.

But the veteran guard could not completely enjoy the win as it came at the expense of his old team.

"School ko dati 'yun. Yun nga, bittersweet. Pero andito na ako sa Arellano. Sportsmanship lang ganun," said Menina.

Menina played for Mapua in 2015, when then host Cardinals finished third before  succumbing to eventual champion Colegio de San Juan de Letran in their Final Four encounter.

Now at Arellano, the 25-year-old Menina is tasked to be one of the leaders as Chiefs eye to make the playoffs.

"Grabe tiwala na binigay ni coach sa akin. Ginawa ko lang role ko sa team. Mga sinabi ni coach like yung mga play and defense, gawin lang namin ng tama."
