After a Finals appearance in the previous season, Mapua University is winless in the ongoing NCAA Season 98 men's basketball tournament, dropping their last six games while their opening day win over San Beda University was recently ruled a forfeit after they a player was found to be ineligible.
The Cardinals are currently sitting last in the team standings with a 0-7 win-loss slate. But team captain Warren Bonifacio would like to believe that the Intramuros crew can still dig its way out of this hole.
"Mindset naman namin is be positive lang lagi eh kasi 'di pa naman tapos eh. May chance pa naman kami," said the veteran big man after their 64-59 loss to Arellano University on Sunday.
"Kailangan lang naming ibigay 'yung best effort namin lagi sa ensayo para makuha namin sa game."
Bonifacio shared that they have been lacking in what was one of their strengths in Season 97: endgame composure. Six of their defeats came in games decided by less than 10 points.
And they plan to find a solution to this problem as they move forward in the season.
"Syempre una sa lahat, lahat down eh dahil ilang games na kaming puro dikit 'yung laro eh, nando'n naman kami tapos sa dulo, talagang nawawala 'yung composure namin sa dulo," he said.
"Dati 'pag endgame, talagang diyan kami malakas eh, then biglang nawala 'yung parang playoffs experience namin last season."
"Hinahanap pa namin 'yung solusyon. Sana sa mga susunod na games namin, ma-finish strong namin 'yung first round."
