Arellano’s Cade Flores gets nod for first Collegiate Press Corps NCAA Player of the Week

Fil-Australian big man Cade Flores of Arellano University has been named by the Collegiate Press Corps as its first NCAA Player of the Week in NCAA Season 98.

In just four games with the Chiefs, Flores averaged 11.75 points and 11.75 rebounds per game to fill in the shoes left by former big man Justin Arana.

Flores even tallied 18 points and 9 rebounds in their win against the Letran Knights to end the defending champs’ 14-game streak and bring Arellano to a 3-1 card.

For Flores, defeating the defending champs shows that the Chiefs is a team which will not back down.

"I'm liking the challenge. It helps build confidence with each other. We take each game as a challenge to us," said the 24-year-old after the Chiefs' first win over the Knights in six years.

The rookie bested Miguel Oczon of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Romel Calahat of the San Sebastian College-Recoletos, and Enoch Valdez of Lyceum of the Philippines University in the recognition handed out by the scribes from print and online media covering the beat.

The Collegiate Press Corps NCAA Player of the Week award is presented by the Philippine Sports Commission, and supported by minor sponsors MNL Kingpin and Tinapayan Festival.
