Mapua University head coach Randy Alcantara on Sunday revealed that Gab Gamboa is now out of their current NCAA Season 98 roster as they await the decision on the rookie's eligibility issues.
Alcantara, though, remained mum on the status of the probe, pending the official statement from the league.
"Wala na [siya sa team]. Ang inaano lang namin ay ma-clear out, maayos lang 'yung mga status nung issue na 'yon para sa both sides--kay Gab, sa school niya, at sa Mapua," Alcantara said.
"'Yun ang inaayos ngayon."
Gamboa is allegedly still enrolled in St. Clare College of Caloocan, where he played for when the school ruled the recent NAASCU edition last June. He suited up when the Cardinals bested rival San Beda University in the opening day of Season 98 last September 10.
He finished with two points and one rebound in seven minutes and 30 seconds of play in their 66-55 victory.
"As of now, ayoko muna mag-ano diyan, regarding diyan. Siyempre may mga proseso pa na inaano. Sila rin, sa part ni Gab meron din sila pero hinatayin na lang natin 'yung sa kanila," Alcantara added.
"Ayoko manguna na mag-statement regarding doon. Inaayos pa 'yun so lalabas at lalabas din naman 'yun."
Since their opening day win, Mapua has now lost two games in a row after bowing to Lyceum of the Philippines University and San Sebastian College-Recoletos to drop to 1-2 in the team standings.
But Alcantara said Gamboa's issue has nothing to do with their back-to-back losses, stressing the playing field is now leveled given the competitiveness of each team.
"Hindi naman. Sabi ko nga, sa lineup ngayon it's anybody's ballgame eh so talagang malakas din naman talaga 'yung mga nakakalaban namin like ng Lyceum na tinalo kami," he added.
"And then Lyceum beat San Beda. Balanced talaga ngayon, basta kami ready lang kami."
