San Beda University was motivated to avenge its opening day loss, and the Red Lions made sure they would do it in the most emphatic way.
According to San Beda head coach Yuri Escueta, their loss to the Mapua Cardinals in the season opener, one that snapped their streak of opening game wins that dated back to 2006, was a hard pill to swallow for the team.
But the soft-spoken mentor was glad to see his wards quick to bounce back with an 85-56 rout of Season 98 hosts Emilio Aguinaldo College just three days after defeat.
"Of course masakit 'yung talo kasi nga medyo masama 'yung pinakita ng team, but at the same time, sabi ko lang sa kanila look at the bigger picture, look forward," said Escueta.
"Nakita namin kung ano 'yung mga kailangan naming ayusin sa offense and defense. But it's all about getting better everyday para 'pag nakalaban namin 'yung Mapua in the second round, mas ready na kami."
Against EAC, San Beda was firing on all cylinders, knocking down 16 three-pointers while limiting the Generals to just 20 total field goals on the other end.
It also gave the Red Lions their first win of Season 98 as they improved to 1-1.
"Of course it's always nice getting your first win early in the season, especially coming off a loss. Sabi ko sa kanila, we have a game on Tuesday so makakabawi agad tayo," added Escueta.
"After we viewed 'yung Mapua game, we focused already sa EAC. Hats off to them also in the second half, they really came to play, they really went harder on us."
