Even before NCAA Season 98 started, Mapua University head coach Randy Alcantara already knew Jasper Salenga could be one of the leaders the Cardinals needed in their bid to bring the title back to Intramuros.
During the media launch last Monday, Alcantara said Salenga can deliver in the coming season alongside other veterans Warren Bonifacio, Paolo Hernandez, Arvin Gamboa, and Rence Nocum.
"Gusto ko talagang ma-involve ['yung ibang players], especially Salenga na alam ko namang may malaking matutulong sa team and hindi lang talaga siya healthy nung bubble," said Alcantara during the event held at the Novotel.
And Salenga lived up to Alcantara's expectations, delivering in Mapua's 66-55 opening day win over San Beda University with seven points and four rebounds.
Aside from his contribution on the court, Alcantara also lauded the senior for his leadership and energy which steered Mapua to the victory.
"Meron pa kaming mga players like si Jasper, siya talaga 'yung iba 'yung pinakita ngayon," Alcantara said on the heels of their victory.
"Iba 'yung leadership na pinakita niya ngayon plus 'yung intensity at energy niya. Nung pinasok ko siya, doon na nahawa 'yung mga teammates niya."
