CSB coach Charles Tiu glad to pick up morale-boosting win ahead of clash with San Beda

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde head coach Charles Tiu said their 71-62 win over San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Friday should serve as a morale booster ahead of their last assignment in the NCAA Season 97 elimination round against none other than San Beda University.

The crucial victory over the Stags was also important as it halted a two-game losing streak of the Blazers which started last Tuesday against erstwhile winless Jose Rizal University and was followed by an 84-65 loss to Mapua.

Tiu said it's finally great to break out of the slump, especially with the clash against San Beda coming up this Tuesday.

"It feels nice to finally get a win because when you're losing those two games, you feel like everything is going wrong. You're so down," Tiu said.

"So it's nice to get the win but, of course, we can't celebrate. We have to play San Beda and I don't even know if we're going to be in the Final Four so we have to take care of business pa rin."

The win, according to Tiu, was also their best defensive performance as far as the ongoing Season 97 is concerned. Offensively, though, Tiu said they can still do better.

"It was a good game. I thought we actually defended pretty well, one of our better defensive games this season so I'm happy with how the players responded and bounced back," the rookie coach said.

"Still not where I want to be offensively. For one, we still can't make our free throws so that's a challenge but at least we finally shot above 40 percent."
