Letran coach Bonnie Tan glad that guard Fran Yu shows up when it matters | NCAA Philippines

Colegio de San Juan de Letran head coach Bonnie Tan is glad that his starting guard Fran Yu is slowly regaining his touch as the Knights look to return to the Final Four in their bid to retain the title they won in 2019.

Yu was clutch in their 83-62 victory against Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) on Wednesday, knocking down two crucial three-pointers and a long-range basket to fuel a 15-0 closing run.

Prior to that, Yu also keyed the Knights' tight 80-77 victory over Lyceum of the Philippines University after he nailed an off-the-glass jumper that gave them a much-needed  cushion.

And Tan is delighted that Yu, the NCAA Season 95 Finals MVP, has been lifting the team the past two games.

"Medyo naging comfortable yung players sa offense, we know that we were playing good defense naman kasi we gave them (EAC) just 62 points pero sa second half medyo nag-relax lang," Tan said of their lackluster offense in the second half.

"Sa offense, medyo hindi namin ma-hit yung rhythm namin pero again, andyan yung mga players natin like Fran Yu na nag-step up sa offense lalo sa fourth quarter."

Tan also shared that Yu has become a different person, on the court and off it, after shrugging off his performance in their first four games.

"Ewan ko lang kung medyo affected siya sa mga first few games sa mga sinasabi sa kanya sa social media. But again, itong last two games coming off the Holy Week medyo mas focused siya hindi lang sa game, pati sa practice," Tan revealed.

"Siguro may gusto rin ipakita sa mga tao kung ano yung kaya niyang ibigay kasi medyo questionable daw yung mga first games niya kahit nananalo yung team."
