Despite the win, Charles Tiu not happy as 'careless' CSB nearly melts down vs Perpetual

"I'm still upset."

These were the first words of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde head coach Charles Tiu on the heels of their 83-73 victory over University of Perpetual Help System DALTA in NCAA Season 97 action on Saturday.

CSB led by as many as 23 points after Robi Nayve sank a free throw off a technical foul on the bench of the Altas, 47-24, to open the third period.

Perpetual, though, slowly chipped away with Jielo Razon bringing them back to within 11 points, 63-52, at the end of the third. In the fourth, the CSB lead was trimmed to as low as six points with Kim Aurin completing his shots from the charity stripe, 77-71.

"I'm still upset. I'm not even happy we won right now because of the way we played in the second half," said Tiu in the post-game interview.

"We already knew that they were going to come back but we didn't match their energy. We were just careless thinking we already won the game but we're not that good a team so we have to fix that."

He added:" I'm very disappointed with the way we played, especially in the second half."

But thanks to Miggy Corteza, AJ Benson, and Nayve, CSB still came out victorious as the troika knocked down three clutch baskets to help secure their fourth win in a row.

"Miggy played great. [This is] clearly his best game for us this season," Tiu said of new recruit Corteza.

"He stepped up big time, he's the one guy I'm very happy with his performance in this game."

Corteza finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
