De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde head coach Charles Tiu made it clear: defense is their best offense.
The rookie mentor said they have to live or die by their defense if they want to go the distance in the NCAA Season 97, where they have won their three last games following an opening day loss to Letran for a 3-1 card.
"I really want to be a good defensive team because I don't know if we have enough talent to compete with the other team. These teams are so talented so we try our best to play good defense," said Tiu on the heels of their win against Emilio Aguinaldo College for their third straight victory.
"There's still so much to improve on. Defense has to be our calling card. There will be games that we can't score but as long as we defend, I feel that we have a chance in every game."
Against the Knights, the Blazers were outrebounded big time after the defending champions grabbed 63 boards against their 53.
It was pretty much the same scenario when CSB went up against Lyceum University and Arellano University. Although the Blazers won in both matches, they were outrebounded by the Pirates and the Chiefs, 50-43 and 51-46, respectively.
In their 78-68 win on Tuesday against EAC, it was the first time that Tiu's wards were superior in terms of rebounds after they collected 44 boards against the Generals' 41.
