The San Beda University Red Lions started their redemption campaign with a rout of the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, 84-76, in the second game of the first day of NCAA Season 97 on Saturday at the La Salle Green Hills Gym.

A triple from LPU's Enoch Valdez early in the fourth period cut the deficit against San Beda, but the Red Lions continued their rally to again lead by double digits mid-quarter, giving them enough cushion to take their first win, despite the Pirates' attempt to steal the game late in the game.

San Beda had the advantage at the end of the first half, 41-27.

JB Bahio and Ralph Penuela shared team-high honors with 12 points each for the Red Lions while Tony Ynot finished with 10.

James Kwekuteye and Damie Cuntapay both contributed as well with nine markers apiece.

Valdez led Lyceum with 22 points, eight rebounds, and two steals.

San Beda will take on the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals on Wednesday while LPU will take on Saint Benilde on Tuesday.
