Reigning NCAA MVP Calvin Oftana applies for PBA Draft

Reigning NCAA Most Valuable Player Calvin Oftana submitted his application for the PBA Draft on Tuesday, a day before the deadline set by the league.

In an Instagram post, Oftana showed his gratitude to the San Beda community as he starts his journey towards professional basketball.

Last season, the 25-year-old forward led the Red Lions to a runner-up finish against Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

"I am now taking off my red and white jersey to begin a new chapter in my basketball career," he said. "San Beda University has molded me to be a better man and I'll carry those lessons with me through the rest of my life on and off the court."

According to the PBA website, Oftana is the third member of Gilas Pilipinas to apply for the draft this week, joining teammates William Navarro and Jaydee Tungcab.

A total of 90 draft aspirants have so far submitted their names to the league.

Aside from Oftana, Larry Muyang of the Letran Knights also applied for the draft.

Collegiate standouts Jerrick Ahanmisi, Andrei Caracut, Jamie Malonzo, and Jun Manzo have also joined the loaded draft pool. Andre Paras also submitted his application.

The draft proper will be held on March 14. —Justin Kenneth Carandang/MGP, GMA News
