Mikee Quintos sings about different kinds of love on GMA Playlist
Learn about the different kinds of love from Mikee Quintos in her GMA Playlist Live Session.
Kapuso actress and singer Mikee Quintos was full of love when she performed on GMA Playlist Live Session on July 26 at Kandle Cafe in Quezon City, which included her second single "Senyales." While The Write One actress said she didn't plan it, she admitted that her song choices discussed different kinds of love.
The first song Mikee performed was "You Gotta Be" by Des'ree. In her interview with GMANetwork.com, she said that listening to it gave her comfort in her everyday life.
“Whenever I hear it parang ang uplifting ng feeling na by saying, reminding your listeners na 'you gotta be; you gotta be strong, you gotta be wise, you gotta be tough,' sometimes you gotta be hard, but also calm. Like, it's an acknowledgment that may hardships din sa life but also encouraging to fight and to continue living with a purpose and fight for yourself whatever the meaning is to you,” she said.
Mikee continued, “And feeling that way, listening to the song, gusto ko din ipa-feel 'yun sa mga makikinig ng iko-cover ko. So, kaya 'yun 'yung naging song choice na una dahil gusto ko nga mapa-feel din 'yung nararamdaman ko listening to the song.”
Mikee admitted that her second song, "Araw Gabi" by Regine Velasquez, resonated with her especially after her grandmother passed away last June. She said that it was the first time she lost a loved one who was close to her, and admitted that she was thinking of her grandmother on her way to the venue.
“I was thinking about it on the way here, just driving myself and na-miss ko si nanay, sabi ko, sana makinig siya 'cause that song was for her. Parang siya 'yung nagturo sa 'kin kumanta, e,” she said.
She then recalled the different things that her grandmother made her do to improve her voice and how she pushed her to reach and achieve more in her singing career.
“Ngayon na tumanda ako, nare-realize kong 'yung mga hate kong pinapagawa niya sa'kin, 'yun 'yung way niya to show 'yung love and support niya for me and I don't know, parang ngayon I feel this urge to fulfill what I can and achieve more sa singing to make her proud,” she said.

Her last song was her second single, "Senyales," which has a relaxing vibe that Mikee described as “lazy and relaxed na parang nagsasalita lang and ranting to a friend.” According to the Kapuso actress, she could relate to the song's message about giving signals to the person you love the most.
“Naka-relate ako du'n sa nakakailang bigay na nu'ng signs ta's hindi pa rin nararamdaman ng taong gusto ko na gusto ko siya. Ganu'n, ganu'n 'yung whole message ng song and that's how Paul and I started, at work,” she said.
Similarly, she felt the same frustrations as in the song about giving off signals and how the other person does not recognize them. Mikee also said that the song was a tribute to the feelings she had when she and her boyfriend Paul Salas first started their relationship.
“Hopefully, people who will listen to it will get reminded of their love stories din sa mga loved ones nila, partners nila,” she said.
While the three songs discussed different kinds of love, Mikee admitted that she didn't plan it that way.
“Parang hindi. Pero I see that connection you're saying, pero di ko plinano 'yun. Oo nga, love for people in general 'yung 'Gotta Be' 'cause you gotta encourage other people too. Love for my lola, and then love for my partner. Yeah!” she said.
Mikee added, “I guess that means I'm a loving person.”
