Ruth B. began her songwriting journey in 2013 through the app Vine and quickly gained a following.
In November 2015, she released The Intro – her debut extended play and on May 5, 2017, she released her debut album Safe Have which amassed over 2 billion overall streams globally in 2023.
Ruth B. has earned double-platinum status with her self-written single "Lost Boy" which has accumulated over 745 million streams on Spotify. Her YouTube channel has gained 1.87 million subscribers and over 707 million views as of February 2024.
Her song "Dandelions" from Safe Haven became a massive hit in 2022 when it trended on TikTok. It soared internationally including chart debuts in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brazil, and Germany with over a billion streams globally.
In her online interview with GMA Playlist, Ruth B. talked about her songwriting process for hits "Lost Boy" and "Dandelions."
"Lost Boy" was the first song Ruth B. had ever written, she told GMA Playlist, "I think at the time that's kind of like where my headspace was. Maybe like, feeling a little bit lost and trying to figure myself out and I kind of just connected to the Peter Pan story so I was able to write that song."
She continued, "Dandelions" was a little bit later. Kind of similar in the sense that I was inspired by this whimsical state of new love and the excitement that comes with that."
Ruth B. added that both had a "magical element."
She also keeps her music straight from the heart. "For me, it's been very important--I love simplicity and keeping it very raw. Most of the music, it's not heavy on production. Just because that's the music I love to make."
Ruth B. also talked about her collaboration with Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis, "I was a big fan of his music, and we've both had similar stories of our music kind of gaining popularity on TikTok over the past few years. It was nice to meet someone who could relate to me in that way. We got to writing, we wrote 28 in one day."
As for her musical influences, the young singer says she loves The Beatles, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Lauryn Hill.
Currently, Ruth B. is "in writing mode" for a new record. "I'm working on an album right now which is very exciting. It's been a couple of years now since my last album so I'm excited to get more music out there and give my listeners some more tunes."
