JaPinoy band SkyGarden's "Historia" makes it to #5 on iTunes PH!

Japanese-Filipino pop-rock band SkyGarden just reached the top five of iTunes Philippines during it's launch date of its second single "Historia" on January 19.

Composed of Ryoichi “Ryo” Rivera Nagatsuka, Hiro Ozaki, and Iwaki “Iwa” Maegawa, SkyGarden is back with a brand-new single under Alt G Records entitled “HISTORIA.”

The rock ballad reached the top five spot on the iTunes Music Chart in the Philippines.

“Historia” is a very meaningful and personal song for the band, inspired by member Iwa’s past relationship. It tells the story of two college sweethearts who are forced to break up due to distance and the challenges of the pandemic. Despite their love for each other, Iwa decides to let his girlfriend pursue her dream of working abroad, sacrificing his happiness for her future.

For me, "I'm 50% okay with my decision, kasi lalaki ako, mataas ang pride ko talaga. Kaya I decided to break up, but after a few months I regretted it," shares Iwa.

After the separation, Iwa moved to the Philippines with Ryo and Hiro--forming SkyGarden. Two years since his breakup and big move, he is happy to say he has moved on.

"For Iwa, he doesn't want the girl to think na she should support him kasi wala na siyang trabaho and baka mawala yung opportunity [ng girl] na pumunta ng U.S. I think that's a very many decision for Iwa, inuna niya yung girl, kaysa isipin na nasasaktan siya," explains Ryo.

Hiro, on the other hand, narrates the group’s experience recording the song for the first time in GMA Music’s studio. "Sobrang masaya 'yung recording sa GMA Studio, maganda 'yung equipment sobra lahat bago kaya 'yung tunog sobrang lakas and malinis talaga. And 'yung recording engineer si Sir Kedy Sanchez (GMA Music’s Artist and Repertoire Manager and in-house producer). Sobrang galing ng advice." 

The song is not just a tribute to Iwa’s past love, but also a message of hope and resilience encouraging listeners to embrace their own “historias” and the memories that shape who they are, even if some of them are bittersweet

Ryo agreed and shared, "Sir Kedy's advice was very important to us. It's very new for us. Whenever we create music with GMA Music totoong JaPinoy Rock, mixed talaga."

The music video directed by Njel de Mesa, set for release on January 26, will further amplify the song’s message with a cinematic portrayal of the story.
