Vilmark's single 'Lisan' inspired by a painful loss
'The Clash' Season 4 finalist Vilmark releases "Lisan" to deal with the sudden loss of his father.
The Clash Season 4 finalist Vilmark was already preparing for a comeback when a tragic loss changed his life and helped him find a new path.
The singer-songwriter didn't initially plan on releasing a sad song, but his father Virgilio Viray's sudden passing just days after Christmas 2022 left him with grief that could only be healed by songwriting.
Immediately after his father's death, Vilmark wrote a song to honor his father's life. He told GMA Music Producer Paulo Agudelo of his plan to share his music, to inspire others also dealing with loss. "[Sabi ko] Kuya Pau, pwede ba natin i-prioritize itong song na 'to, wala akong maisip na ibang song other than this. Ito 'yung naging coping mechanism ko."
Vilmark said during a press interview with GMA Network, "Somehow it helped me to release all the emotions na nararamdaman ko."
"Alam kong nakikinig ang tatay ko with everything I'm doing. I'm excited for him to hear it, habang nasa heaven siya. I'm just hoping na maging proud siya for this song na dedicated for him," he added.
He also opened up about how unexpected everything was, being with his father at all times to suddenly coming to terms with his passing. "I'm really used na nandyan yung tatay ko lagi, masasabi ko halos 24/7 nandiyan siya para sumuporta.
"Walang sakit kasi 'yung tatay ko kaya very sudden 'yung nangyari sa kanya. Parang every word on this single, nagde-dedicate talaga kay Papa."
He also shared what motivates him to keep working on music despite a heartbreaking event in his life. "Gusto ko lang maging proud ang tatay ko sa lahat ng ginagawa ko. I just want to make him proud na pinalaki niya akong maayos."
"Also, nandito pa ang nanay ko, gusto ko iparamdam ang tuwa sa nanay ko habang nandito pa siya. Alam ko wala na si papa, pero nandito pa si mama at hindi namin siya pababayaan. I'm just doing extra effort to make her proud also."
