Golden Cañedo’s new song “Walang Hanggang Sandali” is now available for download and streaming worldwide, and the Kapuso singer had to navigate through a few challenges to see its release today, August 25.
Golden dropped her fresh single under GMA Music and masterfully composed by OPM greats Ebe Dancel, Yumi Lacsamana, Herbert Hernandez, and Jim Paredes today. Considering it a blessing, she looked forward to recording it at once but things didn’t go as planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She related during her virtual media conference, “Noong February po nag-plan na kami na i-record ‘yung song pero sadly, nag-lockdown po. Tuloy-tuloy nagka-COVID-19 so na-cancel po siya. Noong time na nawala ‘yung lockdown, nagplan po kami ulit pero ang kaso is meron po akong… nagka-problem po ako sa jaw ko, like nagpa-pop po siya.”
Golden has since sought medical advice to address the pain in her jaw that hindered her from singing, but that time, the COVID-19 situation has also only escalated.
She said, “Two weeks after, pumunta po talaga ako ng GMA kasi kailangan po talaga mag-record kasi hindi po siya sa pwede sa bahay. So ang kailangan po talaga is merong proper na equipment sa recording."
The young Kapuso singer was accompanied by her mom who stayed outside the studio while she was joined by two persons who supervised her recording inside the booth.
“Nagre-record po kami habang ako naka-mask. Tinatanggal ko lang po if bibirit,” Golden recalled.
While it wasn’t the most ideal setup, she claimed to find fulfilment to be able to still deliver music during a pandemic.
She said, “As sa pagkanta ko, siguro ‘yun lang po ‘yung maibibigay ko muna na para po lumigaya po sila at ma-feel po nila ‘yung love sa kantang “Walang Hanggang Sandali.”
The new normal
Golden admitted to feeling mixed emotions about the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
She claimed to be doing pretty well despite the situation because she gets to spend time with her family. She said she doesn’t mind the restrictions of the quarantine as long as she is with them and she gets to discover the milestones and growth of her younger siblings.
She explained, “Taong-bahay po talaga ako before. Kahit na walang pandemic o merong pandemic, taong-bahay lang po ako. Kasama ko ‘yung family ko, bonding po kami. ‘Yun siguro po kaya wala akong sadness na nafi-feel about this pandemic or kahit makakalabas or hindi.”
However, what affects her and triggers anxiety is when she finds out about the current news and spends a long time online.
She continued saying, “Pero kung titignan ko po ‘yung news, titgnan ko po kung ano nangyayari sa mundo, titignan ko po ‘yung online, doon ko po nakiktia talaga na sobrang daming naghihirap.”
Because of this, she prefers to take time off social media and turns to music.
Since the quarantine has eased up and TV shows gradually resumed programming, Golden concentrates her attention to her voice and her performances.
She admitted she still hasn’t fully adjusted to the new normal especially when her performances need vocal blendings and glamming herself up but she also added that she is always open to adjust and learn.
She further stated, “Out of 10, siguro po nasa mga six pa. Kasi meron pa akong hindi pa alam. Eto sa damit ko, ‘yung hair ko, ‘yung make-up, so siguro sa ganun po. But in the case of performances po, kahit naman ganito, nakaka-pick up pa rin naman ako kung paano ‘yung flow ng show sa All-Out Sundays po.”
