If you don't want to mess up your travel plans because you've gone to the wrong airport terminal, you better keep in mind the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA)'s latest announcement on terminal assignments.
In a post on the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Facebook page, the MIAA has announced that effective April 16, Jetstar, Jet Asia, Scoot, Starlux, and China Southern flights will now be at Terminal 3. Meanwhile, Philippine Airlines flights to Singapore, Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, and Phnom Penh will now be at Terminal 1.
Meanwhile, Jeju Air and Ethiopian Airlines will be moving to Terminal 3 effective June 1. Starting June 16, all of the international flights of Philippine Airlines will now be in Terminal 1. Finally, starting on July 1, all domestic AirAsia flights will now be located at Terminal 2.
Check out the announcement below.
The announcement is in line with an earlier statement made by MIAA Senior Assistant General Manager Bryan Co on state television PTV, who revealed that the international flights of flag carrier Philippine Airlines would be moved to Terminal 1 by June 16 to ensure that Terminal 2 would now only be used for domestic flights. The change will also lead to the redeployment of immigration officers from Terminal 2 to Terminals 1 and 3, which would supposedly result in shorter lines.
The terminal changes come after months of bad press for NAIA. Just a couple of weeks ago, lifestyle vlogger/blogger Cham Tanteras put the NAIA immigration officers under the spotlight after she alleged on TikTok that she was offloaded from her flight to Israel due to “irrelevant” and unnecessary questions from the Bureau of Immigration. The questions included the marital status of her parents as well as whether she had her yearbook with her.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) would eventually apologize to Cham.
Beyond Cham's story, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport was already named one of the most stressful airports in Asia and Oceania by the website Hawaiian Islands. NAIA placed third, only behind Sydney Airport in Australia and Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Vietnam. The site came up with the rankings after looking through 1,500 Google reviews for over 500 airports around the world and ranking based on the percentage of reviews that indicated stress.
