The Philippine passport currently allows its bearers to visit more than 60 countries.

The Philippine passport is starting the year on stronger footing as it has climbed up two spots in the 2023 Global Passport Ranking of the global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners.

The list covers the first quarter of the year and looks at 199 passports around the world and 227 travel destinations. This latest ranking has put the Philippine passport in 78th place, tied with the passport of Uganda. It is two places higher than last year's third quarter ranking, which placed the Philippine passport in 80th place.

However, it is one place short than the Philippine passports ranking during the first quarter of 2022, when it placed in 77th place.

Henley & Partners gets its information from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), enabling them to rank the passports depending on how many countries it allows its holders to visit without having a visa.

Just like last year, the Japanese passport was at the top of the list, as its bearers can visit 193 countries visa-free. Singapore and Korea remain tied in second place, with both providing access to 192 countries.

Rounding out the top five are Germany and Spain in third place; Finland, Italy, and Luxembourg in fourth; and Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden in fifth place. These countries managed to retain their rank from the previous list released last year. The United States passport, which previously topped the list in 2014, remained in seventh place. Just like in the previous list, the Philippine passport allows its bearers to enter 67 countries.

Still at the bottom of the list are the passports for Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. The Afghan passport only allows visa-free entry to 27 countries, while the Iraqi and Syrian ones give its users access to 29 and 30 countries, respectively.

Loosening travel restrictions, such as South Korea allowing for visa-free entry to Jeju Island and Yangyang International Airport, may have contributed to the increased power of the passports on the list.

SINGAPORE IS JUST ONE OF THE COUNTRIES THAT ALLOWS FILIPINOS TO ENTER VISA-FREE. CHECK OUT THE GALLERY BELOW FOR CELEBRITIES THAT HAVE GONE TO SINGAPORE RECENTLY.
