LRT-1 aims to introduce QR-code tickets in early 2022

A QR code as a ticket to use at LRT-1? That's the plan.
The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) eyes to utilize the technology by the first quarter of 2022.
If plans push through, commuters will be able to use QR codes as an alternative to single-journey tickets.
The public can purchase these QR tickets through various banking and mobile apps.
Users just need to enter trip details like the station of origin and destination and pay the corresponding fare to obtain the QR tickets.
The QR tickets will be scanned by the QR-equipped terminals station at LRT-1 stations.
The LRMC is banking on the technology to help commuters travel faster and safer, as well as to promote contactless payments.
Invented in 1994 by the Japanese automotive company Denso Wave, a QR code is a barcode readable by a digital device that stores information as a series of pixels in a square-shaped grid.
