Vivian Que-Azcona, the president of local pharmacy chain Mercury Drug Corporation, passed away at 69. The sad news was announced by the drug store chain on its social media page on Thursday night. "With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved President. We kindly ask for your prayers for the eternal repose of her soul," the statement of Mercury Drug read. The University of Santo Tomas (UST), where Que-Azcona finished her BS Pharmacy degree, honored its late alumna in a social media post. "A grateful Thomasian family expresses its condolences to the loved ones of the late Ms. Vivian Que-Azcona, BS Pharmacy alumna and President of Mercury Drug Corporation," UST said in a statement. The university highlighted how Mercury Drug "provided a home to many fellow Thomasians of the Que family, as our alumni have joined the company in various capacities." UST added, "Ms. Que-Azcona's support for Thomasian education has been sustained through the decades, seen in the scholarship grants, on-the-job training agreements, and support for the experiential learning laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the second floor of the Main Building, among others." Local pharmaceutical company Unilab, which has worked with Mercury Drug for 80 years, also extended its condolences in a social media post. The company said, Que-Azcona was a "visionary leader and a dedicated partner who has left an incredible mark on the Mercury Group of Companies, the healthcare industry, and the country." Unilab added that Que-Azcona "lived with purpose and passion, ensuring only the best healthcare is accessible to Filipinos." Mariano Que, Vivian's late father, opened the first Mercury Drug store in 1945 on Bambang St., Manila. In 2024, Que-Azcona and her siblings ranked 14th in Forbes' Philippines 50 Richest list with a net worth of $1.7 billion. The Dessert Museum unveiled its newest dessert-themed room, this time inspired by a popular sweet treat of a homegrown fast food chain. The sweets-themed interactive museum partnered with Jollibee to create the “Peach Mango Pie-Palooza Room,” inspired by the famous peach mango pie of the local restaurant.
