These seafood are just some of the creatures Bantayan Island is proud of.

Because of the thousands of islands that make up our country, it's not surprising that there are a lot of sea food that can be discovered and tasted.

During Biyahe ni Drew's visit to Bantayan Island, the show was able to try out some of the sea creatures that the island is proud of -- the binga, the buwad, and the subagyo or file fish.

The shellfish know as binga is bigger than a person's face and according to the fishermen who caught it, it is difficult to take from the sea. Fisherman Lolito Bawi-in started gathering binga when he was just 16 years old and continues to do it even at the age of 54. To gather binga, the fishermen need to use improvised plastic hose pipe to be able to breathe underwater. They start diving for binga at eight in the evening to four in the morning.

For each dive, the fishermen say they're lucky if they can gather 15 pieces of binga, which weigh one kilo each. Each binga can be sold for P50 per kilo. Despite the low price, Lolito was able to earn enough from selling binga and put his kids through college.

Aside from binga, there is also a dried fish called buwad. There are different kinds of buwad that visitors can try out, with the most popular one called labtingaw by the local residents. Labtingaw only needs to be spread out in the sun for one to two hours.

There is also the subagyo or file fish, which can be cooked in a variety of ways. Its bones can be made into fishbone chips, while the fish itself can be made into fish tapa or fish tocino.
