The Makati Shangri-La announced its temporary closure back in 2021, citing the impact caused by restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before its temporary closure, the Makati Shangri-La had been operating in Makati since 1993. In 2010, it became the first hotel in the country to equip its concierge team with iPads.
The Makati Shangri-La was just one of the Shangri-La branded hotels that closed over the past couple of years. Hotel Jen Manila, one of the landmark establishments along the stretch of Roxas Boulevard, closed permanently in September last year.
In a statement, the hotel expressed its gratitude towards their guests, partners, and colleagues for their unwavering support for more than two decades, “particularly during the challenging pandemic years.”
With its reopening, the Makati Shangri-La joins other Shangri-La properties still operating in the country, which include Shangri-La at the Fort in Bonifacio Global City, Edsa Shangri-La in Mandaluyong City, Shangri-La Boracay, and Shangri-La Mactan in Cebu.
